‘ BE READY TO SAVE YOUR LIVES, ASSETS TO SAVE ARTICLE 35-A ‘

Srinagar: As tensions persist over the rumored intention of the Narendra Modi government to abrogate Article 35-A — which ensures Jammu & Kashmir unique status — former chief minister Mehbooba Mufti has appealed to the Valley families to prepare for all types of legal protection.
Speaking to journalists on Wednesday, Mufti said she urged her People’s Democratic Party (PDP) employees to reach out to all homes, regardless of their political affiliations, and appeal for unity to protest against any possible move to scrap Article 35-A, Calls Speculations Baseless “Speculations are rife that an attack could be made on (Article) 35-A. To avoid this, we must all unite. Not only political leaders, but political employees from all sides, whether from the National Conference, Congress, BJP or PDP,” Mufti said.
“Our employees should go to all homes and tell inhabitants that we need to maintain our political differences aside at this time. We need to be prepared to sacrifice our property and lives to protect 35-A,” she added.
Speculations about a possible repeal of Article-35A gained momentum after 10,000 extra soldiers were sent to the Valley soon after the state visit by National Security Adviser Ajit Doval.
